DUI Serious Bodily Injury

If you were involved in an accident and you have been accused of a DUI causing Serious Bodily Injury in Hillsborough County, there is the potential that the state attorney will charge you with a third degree felony. A DUI causing Serious Bodily injury is punishable by up to 5 years in the Department of Corrections. The legislature has determined what is considered serious bodily injury, and not all injuries sustained in an accident fall under this category. Additionally, if the injuries are severe the person accused of the crime is looking at a lengthy jail sentence. The Police can forcibly extract blood from the suspect if there is a reasonable belief that the Defendant was the cause of serious bodily injury.
